Inside ROMYNOX’s Cleanroom: Precision and Care

Reading time: 4 minutes

The pharmaceutical industry runs on precision, and behind every high-purity assembly delivered by ROMYNOX is a skilled cleanroom team. Two of our dedicated cleanroom employees, Dorota Murias-Fuks and Aniek de Visser, play a crucial role in assembling the single-use systems that our customers rely on. Working in an ISO Class 7 (Class C) cleanroom, they turn engineering designs into finished, sterile products with meticulous care. Their work ensures that pharmaceutical companies receive assemblies that meet the highest standards of quality and compliance.

A Day in the Cleanroom
Dorota and Aniek begin their day by reviewing assembly drawings for custom single-use kits. Each project is unique. One day they may assemble a complex bag and tubing set for vaccine production, the next a fluid transfer port setup. Using schematics from engineering, they lay out tubing, filters, connectors, and fittings with strict attention to GMP protocols. Every connection is checked and documented, not only to confirm sterility and reliability, but also to ensure the right certificates are in place and no defects are present. This thorough validation guarantees that every system leaving our cleanroom is ready for immediate use.

When assemblies are finished, they are double-bagged, sealed, and prepared for sterilization. One common method is gamma radiation sterilization, which provides a high level of assurance that each product is free from microbial contamination. This step ensures that customers receive a ready-to-use system with no risk of cross-contamination between batches.

Single-Use Systems and Key Products
In today’s pharmaceutical industry, single-use systems are no longer a niche. They have become a global standard for efficient, safe, and flexible manufacturing. The transition from traditional stainless-steel equipment to disposable, one-time-use components has fundamentally transformed bioprocessing. The advantages are clear: reduced cleaning requirements, faster production ramp-up, and greater flexibility in scaling production. However, it is important to note that validation costs are not lower, in fact, they are often higher, because every single-use component must meet strict regulatory and quality standards.

By using pre-sterilized bags, tubing, connectors, and filters for each batch, manufacturers can skip time-consuming cleaning and sterilization cycles. There is also far less risk of contamination or batch-to-batch carryover, since every product contact surface is brand new and sterile each time. Regulatory agencies like the FDA have embraced single-use technology for the higher level of product safety and quality control it provides.

At ROMYNOX, we specialize in providing custom single-use solutions to the (bio)pharma industry. Each assembly is tailor-made to the client’s needs and built in our ISO 7 cleanroom. By staying in frequent contact with our customers and monitoring forecasts, we can guarantee reliable and fast delivery times. This approach strengthens the supply chain and prevents customers from holding unnecessarily large inventories with associated shelf-life risks. We are particularly strong in producing small series single-use sets, with high variety, small volumes, and short, reliable lead times.

One innovative example of our own design is the ROMY-Pass transfer port. It is a compact, cost-effective, and highly reliable solution for aseptic liquid transfer between cleanrooms. Installed through a wall, it creates an airtight, sterile connection between areas of different cleanroom classification (for instance, from a Class D production area to a Class C or B filling suite). The ROMY-Pass is simple to install, requires no cleaning validation, and is highly cost-effective because the single-use tubing can simply be replaced after each batch. This product perfectly illustrates how ROMYNOX develops its own single-use technologies to deliver reliability and value for our customers.

In conclusion, our cleanroom specialists like Dorota and Aniek personify the ROMYNOX values of precision, quality, and customer focus. Their daily work, carefully assembling single-use systems and ensuring everything is perfect, is invisible to most but absolutely vital to our customers’ success. So the next time you read about a “single-use solution” revolutionizing pharmaceutical production, remember the skilled hands and sharp minds in a cleanroom that made it possible. Whether it’s a Romy-Pass transfer port enabling aseptic fluid transfer, or a custom tubing assembly for a cutting-edge bioreactor, you can trust that it was built with expertise and pride. Our cleanroom team’s passion for their craft helps keep pharmaceutical manufacturing safe, efficient, and ready for the future, one sterile assembly at a time.

Demand for single-use assemblies is growing, and so is our cleanroom team. In fact, we are currently looking for new colleagues to join this exciting field!
